these are the Hall Dale High School boys of the Taiko Drum Class.
Their Instructor is from Japan and he is wearing traditional workman clothes from his shoes to his pants to his "american" shirt.
Someone went to a lot of trouble to make this paper mache face and they did a batik outfit for the figure. We used it to stand under while watching the Taiko Drums.
the Taiko Instructor took us through some practice classes with the kids - how he taught them to learn drums through sound etc. He made the drums with PVC from one of the sponsors of the fair and he got the skins that cover the drums from Texas. He said he soaked them a long time to make them soft and piable and then he stretched the skin over the drum and bolted the skins to the drum.
Some figures that were parading around having their pictures taken. the tall guy must have incredible balance. At one time he was dancing in time to the Taiko Drums.
This is another figure that someone made for the fair. It is a paper mache head and a painted dress and paper mache hands.
Another paper mache face and batik outfir with paper mache hands decorating a truck.
We rode in this trolly around the fair and across the roads to go around the campus of the University of Maine, Augusta Campus.
these girls were doing a tap dance. It reminded me of the performances that Sara participated in for Mrs. Lorek during the summer festivals in Pennsylvania. It was pretty hot and very humid and I felt sorry for the girls.
These girls did a ballet dance. Not all of them are ready to go be a part of Balanchine or the NYCity Ballet, but they enjoy doing dance and it shows. Sara loved these kinds of performances.
this part of the dance was painful to watch.
the crowd at whatever day
After the table tennis game. Bill won and the vanquished soul is the one in the white shirt and jeans. He should know better than to challenge Bill to a table tennis game.
pretty grasses on my walk.
a snake who never made it across the street.
