The people at the Archives are very supportive and I really appreciate that. I saw Mr. Cheever in the hallway and talked to him. He was on his way to see us and to apologize for what had happened. He said that his comments could in no way be construed to indicate that I was the cause of Corin leaving the archives. He had talked about her strange behaviors at other offices and that she had been written up several times for inappropriate clothing choices. Art and Jeff had also been in the meeting and Art said that when the subject of Corin leaving instead of staying to work came up, he noticed our supervisor stiffen up and he wondered if the information got scrambled and how it would play out. Unfortunately he did not have to wait too long. The comment was made by one of the staff that our supervisor had not only given the church a black eye, but has added to that a bloody nose.....the very same thing he had said I had done. After my conversation with Mr. Cheever, I felt greatly relieved and exonerated.
We spent the day working on the projects. Bill on digitizing the records and me writing up the separator sheets for the York county records. I have to collect 50 or so of them into each manilla folder. It is not hard work, but is arduous in that I have to sit and try to decipher the handwriting to understand what name I have to look up in the volume 24 court record book. We did not get too far because it is slow going. We have to be careful with the papers due to their age.
After work I took Bill to the YMCA and then I drove through Hallowell to the FedEX place and dropped off the shuttle and non-working X-Key for the dCamX. I went back to the YMCA and parked the car and then headed to the rails trail and walked to Augusta and back. On the track I met a man who had two rescue dogs that were totally cute. These little dogs were searching for the groundhog that lives on the trail and as we rounded a corner, there he was, chewing the grass by the side of the trail. Luckily for the man, the dogs did not see the groundhog (who made tracks over the side of the trail).
We turned in 12,000 images last week and just got the results - all of them passed. Good for us.
It is always a nail biting adventure to turn in a shuttle and hope and pray that all images pass and no reworks coming back. I absolutely hate reworks.
I love the song birds here and I was convinced that there was a cuckoo bird in the neighborhood because I could hear it from time to time. I was right. we do have one. Our neighbor has a cuckoo clock but it chimes all different hours and I think it has a hard time keeping track of how many times it should cuckoo.
The clock in our room at the archives has now acquired a battery and it works wonderfully well. The big joke was to change the time and see who noticed first but when I went to change the time today I noticed that the sweep hand was working and that it was correct time. No one admits to putting a battery in it.
tomorrow is Old Hallowell days and the children's activity for church - what a busy day it will be.
