I guess that the Summer is on its way out because I saw
Golden Rod in full bloom. In
Pennsylvania, as soon as the Golden Rod made its presence known, there were not
many weeks left of Summer and warm weather.
Of course that means shorter days here in Maine for sure. Other states have shorter days as well as
Maine, but because we are so far north, it seems that the days quickly get
short here. When we arrived in the
mission last October, the mission home staff warned us that it would be dark
soon and they were right. We arrived at
our apartment about 6pm and by 7pm it was pitch black and we had to find our
way to Walmart after our helpers left, so that we could buy a blanket to keep
warm. We had to buy other things as
well, but since we did not know where the supermarket was, we had to rely on
Walmart to supply our needs until we got ourselves grounded in where things
were here in Augusta.
Sunday was a blur because it came and went so fast. I went walking on Riverside Drive and walked
out to Stevens Drive and back. It was
cool and very pleasant to walk early in the morning. Church was packed because the Guerette family
had two babies to be blessed and since Grandpa had his heart attack, he does
not travel much any more, so they came from all over for the 4th
July holiday and stayed through Sunday for the blessings of the babies. I saw the family later under one of the trees
taking family photo’s. In the afternoon,
Bill went with Bishop Dawson to visit some families. One of them is Pixie Day and she raises
goats. These are a special breed and she
has sent a few to Russia and she has been over there to teach the people about
raising these special breed of goats.
Today is Monday and we went in early and we worked our tails
off to get two folders done and that amounts to around 3,400 images. This was quite a challenge that we have
undertaken to do but now we are over half way through the 3x5 card
catalog. We found the work order for Washington
County and so we will begin work on that as soon as we have the cards done. There are 300 boxes of folders for Washington
county so we had better get a move on if we want to get it done before we leave
in 10 weeks.
We went to Line Dance Class tonight. They are gaining members every week and the
leaders are very happy to have such attendance.
We are getting pretty good at doing the dances but there are some of
them that defy learning no matter how hard I try.
A sad note for today is from Mary. Puffalump and Tilly cannot go to the humane society because they have too many cats, kittens and dogs and no room for these two. Solo and Trixie may have to be put down because no one wants to adopt both of them together. If I could, I would take Puffalump in a heart beat but we cannot have animals here and I cannot take him home with me. He is so pretty and is a sweet little cat. What a shame to have to put him down after all the effort that has been put into him and the other three.
