The 3rd day of the reunion celebration dawned
with rain and overcast skies. Roxy is
quite ill and she decided to not go to church with us. We found our way to the church in Manchester. We have been to this ward a few times when we
have been here in Connecticut. I met a
Chinese man who had served a mission in Sydney, Australia, and a lady who was
born in Brisbane. It was really really
fun to make these connections. When we
got out of church the sun was out and life was wonderful for travel.
The talks in Sacrament meeting were really exciting and
comforting to hear. During the meeting I
thought of Roxana at the motel and how ill she is. I asked Bill if we should offer to give her a
priesthood blessing, so when we got back to the motel I explained to her what a
blessing was all about and asked if she thought she would like one. She agreed and Bill gave her a blessing. She seemed to perk up and so we packed the
car and took off for the airport. We
parked the car and went in and found a bistro in the lobby where we had the
best clam chowder ever and we had Ruben sandwiches as well. We left Roxie to go through the security
screening and then we left for New Haven.
We had a hard time finding the right road and we pulled over to set the
Iphone so that we could find our way.
While there a tow truck came up and began to back into the car. I could not believe my eyes. I really thought our car was toast. He stopped and got out and started to come
over to the car and Bill got out and talked to the guy. They then laughed a lot because the disabled
car he was to have picked up was across the way and the panicked driver was
waving madly at the tow truck. So we
followed the directions on the phone and found the motel.
We are in this system called Choice Hotels and last night’s
motel was the Cream of the crop and wonderful and very very clean. Tonight’s motel is not so good. It advertised a pool and a hot tub but as is
the case so often, the pool is out of commission and the hot tub is a pipe
dream. I think that when it was first
built it must have been a nice hotel, but now it is a faded dowager. At least we have two beds with David and Bill
in one and Sara and I in the other. Jacob
is sure that we are out to spoil his wife/our daughter and I assured him that there
is nothing wrong with that.
We decided to go downtown to the Yale campus to eat
dinner. We found a wonderful noodle
house where Bill ate a green salad with magnificent avocado dressing. David had a seafood medley over rice and Sara
had Teriyaki chicken over rice, and I had stir fry noodles and vegetables. The food was wonderful and the price was
right. They gave us chopsticks to eat
with and I had to give lessons on how to use them. I
think that one person in our party should have opted to just use fingers……so
the waiter took pity on our table and showed up with forks.
As we were leaving there was a family standing outside looking
at the menu. We started talking to them
and found out that the man is part Shoshone Indian and he and his wife live in Colorado. They are out here visiting the east and
headed for Maine. We talked for quite a
while with them and Sara and his wife hit it off immediately because they are
both librarians. Their children wanted
pizza or McDonalds and would not settle for any noodles or stuff. We gave them our tour booklet to help them
off to Maine. We then walked around New
Haven and found Yale Art museum. This was
wonderful to see because they had an exhibit of Mayan art. One piece was a very thinly beaten piece of
gold work. It was hard to imagine how
thin this piece of gold is but Joseph Smith said that the gold plates were made
of paper thin beaten gold leaves – now I can visualize the gold plates a lot
better.
We walked around the Yale Campus and the magnificent gothic
style buildings are inspiring to see. We
do not build such ornate buildings like these in this day and age. We had to use our Iphone map app to find our
way back to the motel because we gave our initial map to the couple in front of
the noodle place.
Came back to the motel with little or no trouble to find the
place; Tomorrow is going to be another
adventure.
