Forty writing instruments;
I counted them myself and I have no idea how they all got to be in my
apartment. I believe in spontaneous
regeneration as far as these writing instruments go because I came here with
only two pens, 1 marker and a pencil sharpener.
Still have only one pencil sharpener (apparently they do not do the
spontaneous thingy) but the two pens seem to have some magnetic personality trait that attracts other pens
and pencils to their lair. Oh yes, they
have a lair alright because when I need
a pen or pencil there is not one to be found yet when I went to clean up a ‘catch
all box’ there they were, hiding in the bottom of the box. No, they did not jump out and yell “Surprise”,
but they allowed their forms to be gathered into one bag so that I can find
them when I need them; That is, unless
they find another lair and go and hang out there.
At the Archives today I asked Art to bring me more stuff to
put out to be flattened ready for inclusion in the files I am putting
together. A good number of the files
only have one or two pieces of paper in them, but one court case involving an
insurance company runs for about 50 pages in the record volume and one paper
from this case measured 7feet 8 inches long.
I was amazed at what we found. For
that same case there were at least 30 small pieces of paper and quite a few
medium sized pieces of paper with court information on them. Our supervisor wants us to do 15 images per
minute and that comes to 900 images per hour – well, I would love to be a fly
on the wall observing him trying to do this particular court case at that rate. It is about as easy as opening a sardine can
with a banana.
I have start4ed working on my 6th archive box and
have two full folders in it already.
They gave me a whole box of reams of typing paper that is archival to
use as cover sheets for each of the court cases. I have just finished April 1803 new entries,
continued actions, complaints and about 3 or 4 estate settlements.
Our adventure for the day was driving over to the Turnpike
Mall and Bill went to the Triple A office while I checked out Maine Made where
we can buy all kinds of things made in Maine.
We would need a tractor trailer to take home what I want to select, so I
just had to walk out of the store empty handed – we just plain do not have the
money to rent a tractor trailer to take stuff home.
The second part of our adventure was to go to the car wash
over in Manchester. We just select what
we want to have done, pay for it and sit in the car while the machines do their
best to get the car clean. It may run a
little faster with all the dirt washed off – less drag as we drive. A couple of seagulls had left a calling card
on the car and it really needed to be washed off. There are a pile of seagulls that hang round
the Capitol Building and grounds – scavengers of the first order. They love lunch time when the staff go out
and sit at the picnic tables.
We attended the Missionary correlation meeting at the church
with the young elders and the ward mission leader and his wife brought blackberries
in a container for us to sample.
Yum! They look like undersized
mulberries but they taste wonderful.
It was when we got back home that I decided to start going
through stuff to begin packing up ready to go home, that I discovered how many
pens, pencils and markers we have accumulated.
I am convinced that they get together and have a powwow and invite their
friends over and the friends stay and do not go back home. Will have to leave a lot of them here because
I also have a pile of pens, pencils and markers at home as well; Guess I have a weak spot for writing
utensils.
