Our visit to Sturbridge Village, Massachusetts.

A magnificent hand pieced, hand quilted quilt at Old Sturbridge village.
Carolina Lilly quilt at Sturbridge village.  the bottom edge is wavy and so if Sturbridge would hang a wavy edged quilt, then I do not feel so bad if I end up with a wavy edge to my quilt as well.
there was a similar design quilt in the show here in Augusta in July.  It also has a wavy edge.
The village green and farm exhibit at the village.
The weaving shop.  They are making tea towels the re-en actor said.
the hearth to keep one warm in the New England winter.
The walking wheel.  she demonstrated how this wheel worked.  I think I'll just buy my yarn.
The carriage ride around the village square.
Across the square with the water pump in the middle of the green.
David (right) and Sara (left) walking to the next exhibit.
David and Sara at the tinsmiths shop.
Period campers dressed in period costume and Nike sneakers.
the Mill Pond.  this was dredged by hand and it took quite a few months to dredge it out to 14ft deep in the 1800'a using a couple of oxen tethered to an over-sized scoop.  the owner needed more water to flow over the water wheel to drive the machinery in the Sawyer shop, The Grist Mill and the Carding shop, so he had the pond deepened to hold more water and thus increase the volume over the water wheel.
another view of the Mill Pond.
 the beautiful pond again
The working farm, farm house and kitchen garden.
the Blacksmiths shop.  The original one had burned down and they found this one in Massachusetts somewhere and took it apart brick by brick, numbered each piece as they dismantled it, cleaned off the bricks (stones) and reground the mortar and used it over again to put this building back together.
the covered bridge on the other side of the mill pond.
 reflections in the Mill Pond.
More reflections in the absolutely still mill pond.
The hard working horses that hauled the heavy cart laden with people around the Mill Pond trail.
