"Doe" is a real family name

For the longest time I thought that the name “Doe” given to persons unknown such as John Doe or Jane Doe, was just a convenience to be used until the person’s true identity could be determined.
Well, rest that thought forever – There are actually people surnamed DOE in the court system of the York County records.  I was surprised to hear that people actually carried that family name.
In yesterday’s blog I put the poem that the sheriff penned as the daily surprise.  Well, today while I was working with the court records, I actually came across the papers that go with that court case and the poem is penned on the writ.  I took a picture of it and will put it in a Pictures of the day blog.
Mary came in today and wrote some of the papers for York county court for us.  She stayed about 2 hours and it was fun to have her there.  Janet was in for the day and Jason was rather lively in his conversation.  After working for 4 hours he discovered that his numbers were off for his files and he had to delete around 10,000 files.  He was not happy.  His supervisor came this afternoon to show her supervisor how Jason worked the machine and the program installed on it and then he had to tell them that he was in the middle of deleting his whole morning worth of work.   He had to do that or it would have gone into the permanent record and not be easy to correct.
It must have been a day of errors, because I discovered that my papers were started from the end and I was working from the beginning and so I had to stop and re-arrange the papers and then begin from the early records to the later records.  Got within 4 records of completion of the task and I had to give up because of the pain in my back.  The chair I sit on is not good and so I have back pain after sitting for a day doing records.
Our missionary meeting was not till 6pm so when we came home I went to sleep for an hour and it helped a lot. We met with the missionaries and the ward mission leader and Relief society President about the missionary work here in Augusta.  I feel sorry for the young elders because the people they meet are either unalterably opposed to the church and its teachings or they are just not willing to stop and listen to what the message is that we carry.
After the missionary meeting, we went to the Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Adam Small.  He just turned 16 this year and has earned his Eagle and also the Bronze Palm.  There were quite a few people in attendance at the ceremony.  Peter Mallow from the archives was there with his son David.  David is a good friend to Adam and helped him with his Eagle Project which was to spruce up the baseball field in Augusta.
