Friday - gateway to the weekend

I went walking this morning but can no longer go at 4.30am but have to wait till 5.30am for enough light.  It loses light here very quickly and I remember that by Nov. 1 last year it was totally dark at 4pm and barely getting light at 8am.  We went to work in the dark and came home in the dark.  I remember writing that if I had to describe Maine it would be one word “DARK”.  I must admit that the summer is filled with very long days because we are so far north and the Sun is in this hemisphere for the summer.
I called Sara this afternoon and she was having a garage sale.  The kids were selling Rice Crispy treats and had made money on them and they had sold their toys and made $6.00 each on the sale.  They were allowed to keep the money and I guess they will go shopping later.
Talked to David and he was having a wonderful time at the garage sale.  I am glad he has no money or he would be buying big and not have room in his suitcase to go home.
After work I dropped Bill at the YMCA to exercise and I took the shuttle off to FEDEX for shipment.  At the Y I was able to watch an event at the Olympics – it was the long distance run by the ladies and a girl from Ethiopia won the race.  The girls from Kenya were hoping that they would get gold and one of them was interviewed and she said she could use the money to send her siblings and cousins to school in Kenya.  I guess I never gave it a thought that school was not free in Kenya.
We have to go to bed early tonight so that we get enough sleep.  Tomorrow we leave for the Boston Temple and then after that we go to Rockville High in Manchester, Conn. ,and the reunion.
We received a request from the Family History people to tell them of our experience as senior missionaries digitizing teams.  I sent them the whole load and I wonder how it is going to shake out.  Received a very nice note back stating that they appreciate the honesty of the note and summation of the whole experience and they noted that we did suffer a “comedy of errors” and received a confirmation that they would try very hard to not let that happen to others.  It wasn’t very funny for us at the time and still is not funny but I do hope that there will be some realignment of the teaching of digitizing so that others do not have such a sorry experience as we had.  I have nothing to lose and nothing to gain in this round.
