Skunk Stories

Mary came over to the Archives today to try her hand at preparation of papers for digitizing.  Jeff is pushing to get as many papers humidified as possible before Friday because he is going on vacation.  He brought us all the files for 1805 and we have 4 piles of court papers being pressed down by heavy boxes.  He says that tomorrow he will be bringing us about 7 more bundles to be pressed flat ready for me to enter on the typing paper and put into folders.  Actually I do not think I will be able to get the papers done that he has brought us today – it is a labor intensive activity.
Our supervisor, who has no idea what kind of activities we have to go through with this assignment, is coming in a week or so and I think I will give him a pile of papers to work on as well.  Guess he will not be as fast as he expects us to be…………..ha ha ha ha ha.  Some people are good at setting high goals but not so good at achieving them when set to the task.
Mary told us about Kayla, her Australian Sheep Dog.  This dog herds the cats that live in the house and the cats are not too fond of being herded.  Well, Kayla is a herding dog, after all.
Last night Mary and her husband were putting the solar cover on the pool and Kayla was outside with them.  All of a sudden,  her husband Craig, noticed that Kayla was sniffing a skunk that had appeared in the enclosure by the pool.  The last thing you want is a dog that has been sprayed by a skunk…………..it takes forever to get the skunk smell off them no matter what you do.  So Kayla was happily sniffing the skunk and Mary resorted to a bribe situation asking Kayla if she wanted a cookie.  Kayla does not turn down cookies so she bounced away from the skunk, and was rewarded the cookie.  Mary still does not know how it is that the skunk did not spray Kayla.  The cats were watching from inside the house to see just what would happen to Kayla – guess they were relieved that Kayla did not get sprayed.
There is a skunk in our neighborhood – he comes by our window at night and I can smell him.  I saw a skunk helping himself to the neighbor’s trash a few weeks ago.  I had wrongly pinned the blame on the Ravens that also are trash-pickers.
We have been going in early each morning now in an effort to get more records prepared and digitized before we leave for home.  It makes for a very long tiring day.  While Bill went to the YMCA today, I stayed in the car and slept.  I just did not think that I could walk for 75 minutes while he was in the gym.  Across the way there was a soccer game going with little kids running every direction.  I thought of Oliver and he would love to have been out there with the kids running around kicking the ball.  The little kids just kick the ball when they can and lots of times it is just a kick without a plan of action to get the ball in the opposing teams net.  Oliver did make a Hail Mary Kick in one of his games and scored a goal.  I have a picture of him and it is pure Jubilation.
Our goal for the remaining few weeks of this mission is to “Win one for the Gipper” to the best of our ability.
