To flood or not to flood?

The Kennebec at peace with the world in Hallowell
the flood in May showing the boat dock at Hallowell with the river cresting at the decking.
Same decking that is usually about 3 feet above the level of the river
Total peace of a few weeks ago.
June 5, 2012, the decking has completely vanished from  sight.
a tree has come to rest on the decking at  Hallowell.
Looking down the flooded river towards Gardiner.

It is hard to imagine the force of the water.  This Kennebec river has its beginnings at Moosehead Lake way up north and collects water from various tributaries all the way down to Augusta and even on further.  Many roads have been closed off due to flooding and life is miserable for some people.  In a few days all will be back to normal and people will just talk about the flood that was and go on with their lives.
In the movie Memoirs of a Geisha, the statement is made that water is very strong - it can even destroy iron and it finds its own way.

At our apartment we have been invaded by big black ants.  Their heads are at least one eighth inch across and their bodies over one half inch long or longer.  They are totally ugly to see and Bill goes into a panic when one crawls across the floor.  He squashes them in a kleenex and that seems to be a total waste of a good kleenex, but if it makes him feel safer then that is ok.
Our neighbor said that the Ant Eradicator man came by and put a trap for the ants out in the yard and that the ants will go and find it and be enticed out of the apartments.  For me, the jury is still out on that one, because I have seen the ant trap and it is out in the yard, about 30 feet from the front door and it is light green and resembles the home of Jabba the Hutt from Star Wars.  Make that Ant Wars, and we hope that the little creatures are lured out by the prospect of living like Jabba the Hutt and that they leave our apartments alone.  At least it will be easier on the contents of the Kleenex box.
