the iris flowers in front of the statehouse.
Some workers outside having lunch in the sunshine.
The Iris garden. these flowers are such a spectacular deep purple.
The fountain is working again. during the winter they shut it off - and for good reason, but it is now workng again and there is a sign on it that says "do not drink ". Who knows where the water is coming from.
Another picture of the state house and the Iris and the fountain. I love this parklet that they have formed on the grounds of the state house complex.
These are the beginning books of the court dockets. The earliest one is dated 1800 and on the top left.
The writing is spectacular in these books. Even after 212 years the ink is still very dark and readable. The penmanship is admirable - I wish I could write like this.
a better view of the opening page of the 1800 book.
The court docket entries in the 1800 book.
I never cease to be amazed at the quality of the penmanship of the clerk who patiently wrote all this information down. It gives me something to admire when the job gets to be monotonous and it reminds me that these are real people - real lives - real problems presided over by a judge and sometimes a jury.
