Maine State Museum visit

this is the Maine Squeeze, piano accordion group.  they played music for us in the atrium of the Museum.
there are many small towns in this area and this is just a sampling of the names of the towns and the distance to them from the Maine State Museum.
the curator said that this car actually works.  they have a mirror under its chassis to show the drive shaft etc.
He said that this was initially a kit car that you could buy from Sears Roebuck.  People bought these cars and assembled them at home.  He said that these tires were notorious for getting punctures and it took a long time for anyone to get from one place to another due to the easiness of the puncturing.  But then, the condition of the roads was not so good either.
this is a mechanical loom  It had a twill pattern on it and was in Wool.  It is a four harness loom and was one of many that were here in Maine during the industrial era when textiles were produced in the USA.
this loom is also a four harness loom producing a patterned fabric.
IN the background you can see sleighs, and other wheeled vehicles as well as a sail boat.
another view of the sleigh and bicycle and horse drawn vehicle in the upper right.  this museum sports a full size train engine as you enter and a working water wheel that drives wood working machinery.  They have an extensive natural history section and in this section they have the stuffed heads of two bull moose who had been vying for a lady's favor and were butting heads over it.  Unfortunately for them they got their antlers so entangled that they could not untangle them and so both of them died of starvation as a result.  Hormones are what they are and this was one of the saddest endings for the rutting season.  I suppose the girl friend over whom they were fighting, looked on in disgust at them and said to herself, "Is that the best you can do?"
