Flooding after the rain.

After all the rain, the swollen streams have dumped their load into the Kennebec and the river is FULL to the brim.  As we drove to line dance class this evening, some boys were having a blast riding their bikes through the overflow of the river onto the parking lot at the Historic Riverfront.  I wonder what it will be like tomorrow morning when we go to the Archives.
I took a short trip into Hallowell to see how the river was doing and the boat landing that is usually bone dry was taking on water……and more water was starting to enter the parking lot at the lower end – the Gardiner end.  I did not drive down further but I suppose the Thai Restaurant people may be a bit worried by now because they sit right at water’s edge.  The river was raging and it is my guess that the people interested in catching baby eels were out of business for the duration and if there are any salmon trying to swim upstream, my advice to them is to forget it for today and tomorrow does not look good either.
They tell me that we have huge Sturgeon fish in the Kennebec and that they leap out of the water every so often and splash back down in an effort to get rid of the parasites that live on them.  True or not, I do not know.  So we had a snow nor Easter during the winter and now we have had a rain nor Easter and it dumped lots of rain in the area and the Kennebec catchment area did its duty.

I have pictures to send, but our connection is very slow tonight so I will send them tomorrow.

The Cradle we use to digitize broke and I took pictures of it being fixed.  That was really a job to get it going again.  Now the index books we have to do are too big to put in the cradle so we have to do them on top.

It never rains but it pours...................
