Snapped COLD!

Cold! yep, it's COLD!  Arizonans know when it is cold and it's COLD!  No snow.  No Rain. and the spider just huddles in the corner of the window - perhaps he is cold as well.  Looks like he has one more hapless victim in his web.  This spider is the ultimate in hopefulness, persistence and foolhardiness.  After all, who would try to capture food in a place where food is not usually found?  Sounds like "Who Moved the Cheese" story.  He should go where there is more "Cheese". (cheese being a metaphor, in this case, for flying insects that end up being lunch!
Heard that the protestors from the park are being put up in motels for the evenings  by the Green Party!  Now what have THEY to gain?  There is only a handful of protestors left and even if there are 10 of them, that is not many votes is it?  When they are protesting there are all kinds of signs that they are holding up.  I have driven by when they have been out there yelling at passing cars, waving signs and pointing jeering fingers at us in our nice warm cars.  One sign was "Save the Whales", another was against Abortion while the one next to it was proclaiming that Abortion was a woman's right.  Of course there was the obligatory "Banish Wall Street's Thieves and robbers" and there were many more that would not keep still long enough for me to read them all while driving by at 35 MPH in a line of traffic.  Just a handful of tents left in the park and the nabbed the 18 yr old transient who set fire to the A frame tent in the middle of the encampment.  A politician from a nearby town who holds the office of 'selectman' for that region, was run off to jail with 9 other protestors this past weekend for trespassing on the lawn of the governor's mansion.  In the paper yesterday was a piece in which someone from her town called her actions immoral and deplorable and a poor example to the youth of the area.  A petition was being floated for this woman's recall from office.  Apparently there has been some wheeling and dealing since then and the petition has been withdrawn for reasons withheld from the press.  Inquiring minds want to know!
We had an interesting day at the archives today.  We have three reworks that we were stumped as to how to get them done.  So, what do they do in the movies?  Well they call in the Cavalry - that's just  what they do.  So Bill went down to the first floor (it is in the basement and we are on the third floor which is ground level - don't ask, it is too hard to explain the reasons for this arrangement),  He enlisted the help of Peter.  Rob came along for the ride to see what was to be done.  Peter used his trusty screw driver and hammer and away he went and managed to get the steel rod out of the binding and wallah! the book opened up and we were able to take the pages out and we will digitize them one at a time.  Modern intervention is amazing - these books are over 150 years old.  I'm sure the ancestors would have been standing there holding their collective breath as Peter hammered away and removed the hallowed pages.  Rob told me of the records dump they had recently.  There are some records they keep for certain years, and then  shred them and some records they keep for ever in records preservation.  The ones Rob was asked to shred were old police files from many many years ago. He said he read a few and he was laughing his sides to aching point over some of the reasons people were arrested.  They were things that police don't bother with now - such as public drunkenness and swearing in public and being inappropriately dressed for the Sabbath.  Ann told me that even now, in the state of Maine, if a baby is born illegitimately the records are sealed and only the court or the mother is able to ask for and view the birth record.  As late as 1966, a baby born illegitimately or born to a couple who were married  less that the proscribed 10 1/2 months, then that child is considered illegitimate with that word in large red letters written across the face of the birth certificate.  I personally saw such certificates when I was working in the Hospital office in Toowoomba.. So I am now living in an ultraconservative state where liberal political leanings are ok. Yes, I am scratching my head over that as well.
We went to the YMCA after the archives and it was so cold that they did not let the little ones out in the play yard, but rather, to give them a change of scenery from the child watch, they had them in a "four baby carrier stroller" and off they went around the halls of the YMCA.  The little kids were so cute riding in their carrier.  The last time we were at the YMCA there were some little ones walking on the track.  They were holding hands and walking together - and I still do not know how the leader got 6 little two year olds to walk quietly and hold hands and walk on the track.  Must have made them an offer they could not refuse!
In Prescott at Christmas I usually tie Red Bows to the Security Lights in the front yards of the homes in our Cul-de-Sac and so to continue the tradition, I put a big red ribbon on the security light in front of the apartment building where we are.  I have to do something to kindle the spirit of Christmas.
