Now who'd have thought that something as repetitive as using a digitizing camera and capturing images of a lengthy court record book would be the setting for an answer to prayer? We were having trouble getting the image to be clear and centered and the book would not co-operate and the cradle was being cranky and we were inundated with frustration over the whole thing. So, I thought that this might be a time to have prayer because obviously on our own we were getting nowhere fast. I sought my Heavenly Father in a short prayer, explained the problem, told him of the solutions we had followed with no luck and asked for help to get the digitizing done properly so that we would not have rework. The book we were working on is 2 1/2 inches thick, with tight binding and it was about 130 years old. The thought came into my mind "Well, if you place the spine directly over the center of the cradle, even though you are only doing single capture of the right hand page, it will work better for you." I followed the prompt from my Heavenly Father and the digitizing went perfectly well after that.
We have another 2 books of over 400pages of single capture to do and it takes twice as long to do these as it does to do double capture. In other words, if we are doing single capture, one page at a time, we have to lift the glass top and turn the page for each capture, whereas if it is a double capture, we are able to photograph two pages at a time and the work goes really fast at that rate. Lifting the glass top 400 times over lifting it only 200 times makes quite a difference in how fast we get through one book.
The only disaster for the day happened when I downloaded an update for my Iphone and now it will not work. I have come to rely on this handy dandy little object and so it will require some serious technological skills on the part of the Verizon whiz kid to get it going again. Before I go to the Verizon store, I will pray and ask if Heavenly Father has a solution that will help this gadget work.
Found out yesterday that the staff at the Archives will have a Christmas Party after all. They plan to "Order Out" and then eat lunch together. Art, the archiver, is heading up the party and his idea is to order Pulled pork sandwiches. Oy Vey!
