There are many signs of spring for us to take note of what is ahead of us. The grounds keepers at the archives were out with shovels and brooms and wearing masks, they were sweeping and shoveling the sand that had been put down over the snowy periods of winter. they had to wear masks because of all the dust they were kicking up.
As we walked along the path, I saw small anthills at the side of the walkway. Now that is a sure sign of spring. They must be hungry because they have already built these perfect little hills with sloping sides down into the center for unsuspecting insects to slide down into the maw of the pit only to be eaten by hungry ants.
We began work on the big book and it was labor intensive. After about 2 hours we began to ask "When is Lunch"? That has become the joke for us - When is lunch.
The most exciting thing to happen today was when Peter came in and disassembled our cradle glass top. He took it out and measured it and by 2pm we had a new plate glass top to begin using the cradle again.
Soon after he got it installed, some workers from another office came in and set up a computer and magical scanner. Peter was really excited to see the new scanner - it is very high speed and the person who will be using it will be making digital copies of the births of Maine. Peter was so taken with the new scanner that he offered to take it to his "man cave" on the first floor to use in his own work - but the installers just laughed and said he would have to put in for his own scanner............this one was spoken for. We are very happy to have the new glass because now we can do 'scratch free' digitizing. One of the adjudicators told us that unless we got the glass replaced, she would fail all our folders until we did something about it. Literally, our hands are tied until the State fixes things - the cradle belongs to them not us.
Tonight we went to Line Dance class which is our exercise class. Some of the dances do a lot of twirling and I lose my balance when we do these dances so I either sit them out or leave out some of the twirls. When we get back to Prescott, I do not think we will be going line dancing because most of them are held at bars and that is not such a good place to be.
