Friday was a panic to be sure. We decided to see if we could finish the second right/left capture book and we were sailing along really well when the spirit whispered - you had better check to see if you are correct. I have learned to take heed when this happens and sure enough we were off by one page and so we had to go back to see where we went wrong and try to fix it. That meant we had to keep an eye on the right/left icon, the template and the screen............oh it was fun.............and then we found that we forgot to check one or the other and had to go back and fix that too..............and eventually we got it corrected and that was just in time for Bill to do the week ending reports. I tried to do the weekending reports but they were too stressful for me so Bill does them. We managed to be done by 3.30pm and then we left to take the shuttle to the FedEx and mail it off. It was raining and I was thankful that it was not snowing.
I had taken some cupcakes into the office for St. Patricks day and not all of them had been eaten - and I forgot to clean them out of the break room. So, on the way to the Freeway after Fed Ex, I called the office and Anthony told me that they had been taken care of. I did not want the squirrels to raid the break room again - I think that one Mayday! Mayday! Mayday! event in their lives is enough and I did not want them to have to go through one more of them - especially if I was the cause.
We got home before the missionary meeting was to begin, and when the rest of the participants showed up we got off to a rollicking good start and the missionary work seems to be progressing pretty well. I had kept some cupcakes here for this occasion because it was the last missionary report meeting that Elder Ashcroft would have to attend here in Maine. He goes home on Tuesday.
After the meeting broke up, I gathered up the laundry and went down and put our clothes in. The machines were done by 9.430pm so we sorted the clothes and fell into bed............grateful for the opportunity to put a harrowing week behind us.
So we decided to make Saturday a holiday of sorts. Bill decided to go to the YMCA to exercise and I went over to Emily Cyr's for my reflexology appointment and we both got back in time to eat breakfast and take off again. Bill went to the Maine State Library to use their internet to do his Pharmacy Continuing Education Seminar and I went to the Relief Society Birthday Party. We had about 12 sisters come and that was fun. I left at noon and picked up Bill and we went up to see one of his home teaching families that have supposedly moved. This is the third time we have been there and they are just not there - but Bill believes that they could not have moved without telling him. People do this all the time.................they have moved.
so we went home, changed clothes and then set off for Belfast. I had heard that Belfast was on the ocean and since it is only 40 miles away from Augusta, It would make a nice drive. There is a lovely state park on Route 3 called St. George State park (I think that is the name). It has a huge lake there and it was completely frozen over still. We got to Belfast and ate lunch at an Irish pub. I had Lamb Stew - a real treat and Bill ordered a hamburger. They even gave us a piece of Irish Soda Bread - after all it was St. Patricks Day.
This car dealership was very festive with the balloons early in the afternoon. Later on when we were going home, the balloons had lost a lot of their oomph......and had wilted some. Perhaps the Balloon Police from Prescott had come by and deflated them. They wander the sidewalks of Prescott monitoring balloon placement and issue summons to people who have more than allowed..............go figure.
Darby's where we ate St. Patricks Day lunch, Belfast, Maine.
Darby's is so old, it has a pressed tin ceiling in the pub.
In the top right of this picture the round thing is actually a lamp that has the Budweiser horses moving around on a turntable of sorts. quite a unique lamp. The woodwork of the Bar was really interesting. You can see it quite clearly over the top of the neighboring booth.
Main Street of Belfast boind down to the harbor.
Our first glimpse of the harbor is in the middle of this picture.
found a Quilt shop just a few doors away and went in. It was lovely and well organized but they have no oriental fabrics. They did have lots of pretty hand made paper that I adored, but these papers were very expensive and I have no way of getting them back home if I purchased them. We walked down to the shoreline but I will not walk on that beach. It is dark gray sand and looks more like a mud bowl than a beach. I guess I am more used to white sand beaches in Hawaii and Australia. We were able to see Penobscott Bay and there were hundreds of buoys out there for the Lobster Pots. visited one tourist trap and saw all kinds of stuff that we could have purchased but things are so expensive. I asked if there were cruise ships that visited this port and the lady said - Oh yes, this is a working deep water port and the smaller cruise ships come in here. Well, that explained the prices. I think I would do better getting souvenir shirts here in Augusta - maybe they will cost a little less than the tourist trap at Belfast.
