Saturday adventures with tricky weather

This morning the mist was very thick and the orb weavers webs were spectacular.  The unfortunate thing is that the camera on my cell phone is not fine tuned enough to do a close-up so my description of the webs will have to do.
We are now on a series of ‘lasts”.  Our last roll of toilet paper is in the cupboard.   We have only two cakes of soap left so they will go home with us.  I have used up my lipstick but I have not used any makeup on this mission.  Besides, the foundation I have with me is the wrong color – it is geared to skin that is outside in the sun and for the whole year I have been inside an office. No one in the archives wears makeup except for the secretary to the head archivist.  She has to wear makeup and color her hair so that she looks classy in her role in the office.  This is our next to last weekend here.  We have one full week this week and four days next week to work at the archives.  Today was our second to last laundry day.  My clothes are wrecked by the hot dryers so I will be going home with just the bare necessities.  It will seem like Christmas to go into my clothes closet when I get home but in reality it might just be like a chamber of horrors because I have put on a lot of weight here – mostly due to leading a VERY sedentary life.  There is not much exercise associated with working inside an office all day with virtually no time to exercise either before or after the shift.  Before I came here, I was used to walking at least 4 miles per day and as much as 7 miles per day and I could keep a regular schedule of eating and control the portions and other things – but on this mission early on it became apparent that my lifestyle from Arizona was not going to translate into the same thing here.
As I was driving to the park for the hike, I noticed that the Kennebec was very rough on the surface.  There was a lot of wind and it was whipping up whitecaps.  I did not think I would ever see whitecaps on a river.
At 10am the ladies from church met in a Park in Hallowell and we went hiking through the woods.  There is an abandoned quarry there that is filled with water and it is very pretty.  The thing we noted was that there were many varieties of mushrooms/toadstools etc. all over the place as well as many different kinds of Lichens and mosses.
There is a beach of sorts at this lake.  It consists of some gravel looking stuff that ex tends out into the lake for a few feet for people to go in and swim.  The last thing I would do in this lake would be to swim.  They tell me that there are leeches in the water and that is enough to stop me cold, not to mention that the water temperature is quite cold and I do not put his body in cold water.
I went to a baby shower in the afternoon.  It was sponsored by the mother and two aunts of the mother to be.  We played a number of games and I won one of the guessing games.  They had a baby bottle there with little baby shower favors inside and we had to guess how many there were.  I looked at it and saw that there were about 6 different shower favors in it and that they come in packs of 10 so I put down 60 and I was right on the money.  Bet I could not repeat that feat at the next shower.
