This Obelisk is of Granite and was erected in honor of Joseph Smith to denote his birthplace.
the Base of the obelisk gives a brief look at the life of Joseph Smith and also the scripture of James in which it states that "if any of you lack wisdom, ask of God who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not."
