We went to work at the archives this morning and after lunch, we fixed up the report and sent it in, dropped off the shuttle at FedEx and then hit the highway for Ashland, New Hampshire for the evening. Tomorrow we will go on our way to the Joseph Smith Memorial in Vermont. Bill put in for a Google Map to get us here and then on the road for tomorrow, but they were way off in their estimation of how long it would take us to get from one highway to the next turnoff etc.etc. so we really thought we were lost. Imagine that, the Markhams lost? But we worked at it and found that in reality, the southern route to the Vermont final destination was route 25 and that goes right by Keepsake Quilters on lake Winnepausake in New Hampshire. Yowee! I have been dreaming of going to this quilt shop ever since we received the mission call, but realized all too sadly that it was a "fur piece" from Augusta, Maine. Oh well, I thought that when we go to Keene, NH, that we can make the journey up to Keepsake Quilters, and imagine my surprise when I saw that today we would be on rte. 25 and it goes right by the quilt shop. About 25 years ago I entered one of their challenge projects and sent it in. Mind you, I had just started quilting and I really did not know what I was doing...........but I jumped in anyway and made it up and sent it in. I put a really high price on the quilt because I did not want it sold but wanted it back for my living room. It sold!. It now lives in Switzerland - I got a nice postcard from the new owners. I still think the quilt would look a lot better on my walls, no matter how much time has passed.
Well, on the way here we passed many rivers, streams, lakes, ponds and puddles. It was such a pretty drive over even though it was an overcast day and I could not take pictures because Bill would not stop. So I took pictures in my head but cannot find a way to connect them to the Picasa program on this computer. So I took pictures wherever I could and that will have to suffice.
The Bubblegumpink Michelin Man strikes again - this time she invaded Keepsake Quilting in New Hamshire.
do we need more proof?
The Common Man Restaurant - looks like a real house - and perhaps it was one day long ago - it is now a restaurant with the most interesting offerings.
We were there too early for the live music - but the food tasted good anyway.
The entrance to the Common Man restaurant.
the main entryway sign...............yeah! Get in here!
In the bathroom stall there were many quotes from "On Golden Pond".
The company store across the street - they were plastic Canada Geese - not a trained crew.
the bargain basement.
Welcome to the company store.
The Zumba class is being held at the Baptist Church across the street from the Common Man Restaurant .
the Motel here in Ashland boasts a heated outdoor pool - but they have it safely covered up and I am ok with that. did not want to put this body in an outdoor pool anyway.
