We're on our way

Well, after our boondoggle in Los Angeles, we arrived home and spent a wonderful night on our own bed and a toilet that flushes - wowee! this is living.
We found that we had lots of stuff to bring on this mission and were afraid that we could not fit it all in the car..... but the boxes worked well and the plastic bags worked even better.  They are filled with soft stuff like clothes etc. and so they just jam in wherever we can get them.  Hard to pack for one year, but we did our best and if we run out of clothes (and we will), there are shops out there for us to go to...........like LL Bean!!!!!!
Who could ask for anything better than LL Bean???   I have been drooling over their catalogs since Sara and David got their backpacks in 1986 or so.  Oh yes, the kids were small and they looked like a backpack walking a kid to the bus stop, but the best thing is that one of the backpacks broke a strap and LL Bean replaced the whole thing and even monogrammed it again for us.  Now, that is service.
We went to a friend's house to watch the morning session of conference and ate breakfast there.  NO FOOD AT OUR HOUSE..............and right after conference ended,  we headed for home and began the arduous task of stuffing our belongings into the car.  We did not think we could take it all - and yes, we did leave the blender at home...........if we need one, we can go get one but I suspect that there may be one at the apartment when we get there.  I will have to buy another Brita jug because I have become accustomed to having good water to drink.
We packed a lot of stuff into the car and then went down to church to watch the afternoon session of conference.  We then came back home, finished up the task, said goodbye to our neighbors with a gift of food that we found in the cupboards that we forgot was there...............they are happy to take the extra food.
Drove the car out of the garage and then put the truck in the garage ready for us to leave town.
We left at about 4pm and we even remembered to close the garage door.  Started out on a trip to Australia some years ago, got down the road a bit, and came back because we had not remembered to close the garage door.............sometimes we forget there is a little button that you press to get the door to close.
We drove through Prescott Valley and up 169 to I-17 and watched the changing foliage patterns as we drove.  Down low (about 4 to 5000 ft level)  the trees are short and stubby but as you get to around 6 to 7000 feet at Flagstaff, the trees are tall Ponderosa's.
We did try to find Cracker Barrel to eat - this is the 4th time I have been in Flagstaff to try to find this particular restaurant, but after trying for about 20 minutes to find it, we gave up and ate at the Chinese restaurant.
As we drove out to I-40 heading East, there was the Cracker Barrel restaurant - large as life but we had already eaten and did not want to spend another 30 minutes or so trying to find it.
Our first stop is in Holbrook, Az.  On the way to Holbrook from Flagstaff, we passed an industrial plant.  We had seen it in the day time and it does not look much like a going concern, but of a night time - It looks like s Cruise ship from a distance away and as we got closer , the lights glittered like Christmas.  Still do not know what they process there, and we find ourselves wondering why anyone would put a processing plant smack in the middle of the high desert.  Guess, if you build it, they will come or something like that.
The Motel boasts a hot tub in every room - well it is just a bath tub and shower..............you cannot expect too much when you stay at the Econolodge.  Although, they do have free WiFi and my computer is about of battery power because Bill is using the cord to my computer so that he can find the early sessions of conference on BYU TV.  He packed his cord in the electronics bag and assured me that it would serve no purpose to put the cord in with the computer in the suitcase I used for my computer.  We have two laptops in that black bag...........are we computer literate or savvy?  Cannot answer that.  Just know that it is late, I am tired, the battery is low on my laptop and Bill has my cord hooked up to his laptop.
Tomorrow we have to get up early,  get back on I-40 and do about 500 miles to Pueblo, Colorado.
Today is Lyla's birthday - she is three years old.  We sang happy birthday to her over the phone on the way here and she cried because there was no present accompanying the song.  It is packed in the car and she will get it on Tuesday night.
It tugs at your heartstrings to hear a little one say, over the phone, they sang birthday to me - where is my present?  The tears alone are enough to make this grandma take one giant step from Arizona to Nebraska just to pick her up and comfort her disappointed heart.  Grandma's have been known to do that!
