Our two weeks have ended in the MTC and we have returned home. But that is the short version!
THE LONG VERSION follows:-
At 6am the Fergusons picked us up and we four went to the dining hall to pick up our sack breakfast. Fresh made bagels, cream cheese, milk and a banana for me. The MTC loaned us a minivan to go to Salt Lake city to the church Office building. The four of us were treated to 4 hours of followup and showing of our work that we captured on the shuttle. Two of our efforts got failed and the rest passed. At noon, we were treated to lunch at the Church Office Cafeteria. Lunch over, the four of us went back to the parking garage under the conference center, and drove to the SLC airport. Fergusons had to return to the church office building while Bill and I boarded our plane for Los Angeles.
So far so good!
We found the Airline ticket counter for Great Lakes Airline in LA, and the young lady there was so relieved to see us. There was a problem with the plane and so there was no flight out of LA and we were put up in a Motel for the night. The airline had tried to contact us but the only phone number they had was for the travel office at the MTC and they were told that we could not be contacted because we had gone and no one had our phone number. Didn't matter much either way, because we were in the air on our way to LA when they were trying to contact us.
We stayed in the Holiday Inn, Los Angeles, and I discovered that the McDonalds across the street was a 24/7 place and at 3am there were cars lined up to go through the drive up window. Who wants to eat McDonalds at 3am? Obviously some people do.
So, we had to cool our heels for one night and early Saturday Morning, 1 October, we boarded the plane for Prescott. Almost did not make that plane either because Bill lost his drivers license. He went back to look for it and the TSA people had found it.
The pilots are very young - much like the young ones who flew us to LA 2 weeks ago. Actually I think that they love flying this prop jet plane and they really get to hot dogging in the clouds.......especially when we are in turbulence.
Our neighbor Sharon brought us home from the airport.
In Salt Lake City, no one asked us about our mission. I guess they are often over run with missionaries headed here and there but in LA we were asked by two people where we were going. They are members and are interested in where we will be serving. The lady at Great Lakes ticketing is a member who served a mission in New York city. We were also asked whether we were returning home or arriving to serve when we were at Prescott Airport. I guess wearing a missionary name tag makes us stand out and set apart from the rest of the people in the airport.
So as the picture shows, the door hanger that we left on our door at the MTC says it all..............We have left for our Mission.
