Today is actually our last day at the archives this week because tomorrow, Friday 11th November is Veterans Day and is a paid Government holiday. The workers were chomping at the bit ready to go home the minute it was 4pm.
At the end of each week we have to put together a time and production report. I never have any idea what to put down because sometimes our computer balks (which happened today) and we have to refresh it and while it is working its way through the updates etc. we cannot use it for digitizing. Yesterday Manual Sanheuza called us and did his magic over the phone and updated our computer for us – he was in Montreal and through the marvels of computers and connectivity, he was able to access files in Salt Lake city and have them transfer over to the DcamX here in Augusta. I will never cease to be amazed at t his computer driven world in which I find myself. We also have to put together something called a DOR report in which we report on how many volumes of records we have digitized.
It has been raining today and is still raining as I type this. We had a meeting with the missionaries and one of their contacts. It was down at the church and when we were there, we were surprised to see lots of members doing food boxes to be distributed to the poor for Thanksgiving. In each ward I have been in, there has been similar activities. Assembly lines work well in any situation that requires multiples of boxes to be put together. The adults were working on the project while the little ones were chasing each other and the basket balls around the hall. So much fun when you are a little kid.
Art came into the room this morning and sang some sort of little ditty to us then he said that it was easy to see why this song did not become the anthem of choice for Maine. I could not understand his accent in the song so I understand also why it did not become the anthem of choice for Maine. I told him about the man who was in court for blasphemy and he asked to see the court record, and said he was going to find the actual record – he teaches a Sunday school lesson so I suppose it will become a part of the lesson or something.
We were having a hard time coping with the digitizing due to the computer not working this morning, and so we opened up our email and the following email came from Sara and it brightened our day.
Hi Mom and Dad!
I just wanted you to know what Oliver prayed for yesterday.
"Dear Heavenly Father, I love Jesus and He loves me back. I love Heavenly Father and He loves me back. I love Grandma and Pappa, and they love me back. I like Mom and Dad. I love Ethan and Lyla and they love me back. In the name of Jesus, Amen." I guess grandma and pappa trump mom and dad. Not surprising.
In primary on Sunday, they were talking about Heavenly Father answering ... or not answering our prayers. The teacher asked the kids "Why do you think Heavenly Father sometimes doesn't answer our prayers?" Then we talked about how moms and dads love us, but they don't always give us what we ask for. So the teacher asked, "If you're really good and you ask mom and dad for something, why might you not get it?" The answer is because it might not be good for you. The kids didn't seem to get it, so to have that make more sense, the teacher gave an example of a kid telling his parents, "I've been really good. Can I please have five bags of candy." Well, Oliver raises his hands and talks all about his awesome grandma always takes him to the corner station to buy candy because she loves him. Nice!
We went to Cold Stone Creamery tonight and really enjoyed the Birthday Cake Remix ice cream. Oliver inhaled his! And then kept asking for more and more scoops from mom and dad ... which we gave him. The kids were so happy! They love you so much!
I love you too and I love to read your posts. What great work you are doing!!!
Sara
By the way, I'm doing a paper on a digital library. What is the name of the digital library do your images appear in?
We talked to Sara and the children tonight on skype – another marvel of the century. I am glad that senior missionaries are able to go on skype and talk to the grandchildren.
